Shareholders Still Supports F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone

Majority shareholder of the Formula One Group, CVC, choose to “watch and wait” bribery-related cases being attacked President and CEO of F1, Bernie Ecclestone.

Previously, German prosecutors indict Ecclestone bribery. The charges relate to the payment of 44 million U.S. dollars to a German banker, Gerhard Gribkowsky, from Bayern Landesbank (BayernLB) related to the sale of shares of Formula 1. Ecclestone party has six weeks to respond, since the indictment was launched last week.

Last week also, CVC issued a formal statement will monitor this case. This week, the source of the CVC told the Daily Telegraph that they support the 82-year-old British entrepreneur is.

Suppose after going through the legal process he is proven guilty, Ecclestone leadership must be willing to remove the seat. The next question is, who is the best candidate to fill the position place?

Sources Daily Telegraph stated that Ecclestone replacement will likely come from outsiders. Formula 1 currently has 313 staff and 10 senior managerial positions. None of them are worthy to replace Ecclestone.

“This business is too small to have a replacement candidate from within. Successor will almost certainly come from outside,” said the source.

Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner is one of the so-called replacement candidate Ecclestone. However, most of the names come from the world outside of F1, including Sainsbury’s CEO Justin King and former M & S boss Sir Stuart Rose.

“I do not know if companies such as Sainsbury’s boss could do my job. Maybe he could,” Ecclestone told the Guardian newspaper last April, when the King entered the name as a candidate.

However, it seems that the shareholders are not in a hurry to find a replacement candidate.

“The reality is that Bernie is running a business and he is much better understand what was going on than us,” continued the source of the CVC. “We clearly have an important role for our shareholders, but we do not run this business, day after day, in detail.”

NASCAR back at dirt track for 1st time since ’70

NASCAR is set for an off-road detour through the dirt.

The Truck Series is headed for the Eldora Speedway half-mile dirt track for a one-night only special designed to reconnect NASCARwith its early roots and give fans raised on asphalt and stock cars a taste of the wild races run in the dust.

The last time one of NASCAR’s top touring series competed on dirt was Sept. 30, 1970, when Richard Petty won a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (called the Grand National Division at that time) race at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.

The dirt drought ends when the trucks race Wednesday night at Tony Stewart-owned Eldora in Rossburg, Ohio.

Stewart, still a regular on the weeknight racing circuit, has naturally become a big booster of NASCAR’s return to dirt. Most of the field drove their first Eldora laps at Tuesday’s practice.

”It’s a neat facility,” Stewart said. ”It’s well lit, it’s a wide racetrack, it gives you a lot of options of where you can go and what you can do. I think it gives those guys an opportunity. The practice day on Tuesday should help a lot of those teams be able to get acclimated before they come back to the track on Wednesday.”

Eldora’s grandstands are sold out for the 9:30 p.m. ET race, even as some of the series’ biggest winners, like Kyle Busch, are sitting out. Ryan Newman and Dave Blaney are the only Cup drivers in the field. The race will feature a handful of so-called ringers, such as Scott Bloomquist, a member of the National Dirt Track Hall of Fame with more than 500 victories in a lengthy career. The 49-year-old Bloomquist is set to make his NASCAR debut driving the No. 51 Toyota for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

”It’s going to be something different I’m sure, but it’s a race car and I’ve driven a lot of race cars,” he said. ”Never a truck, but it’s still a race car.”

The race also gets a twist on qualifying. There are five, eight-lap qualifying events and a 15-lap last-chance race to come up with the 30 competitors (regularly 36 in the series) who will start the 150-lap Mudsummer Classic. Because there is no pit road, the race is broken into three segments of 60, 50 and 40 laps.

Trucks driver James Buescher raved about Eldora after he tested there.

”It was a lot more fun than I expected it to be,” he said. ”It’s definitely going to be interesting when we get 30 trucks on the track at the same time in tight quarters like that. It’s going to be an action-packed race. I just hope there’s not too many cautions.”

It could happen. After all, the trucks weren’t built to race on dirt, so some adjustments were needed.

The Goodyear dirt tire has been widened from 10 to 11 inches to provide a larger contact patch with the track and give the trucks more grip. While the Eldora right-side tire will basically remain the same height as a NASCAR tire run on asphalt tracks, the left-side is 3 inches shorter (85.8 inches) to build in more stagger, which will help the trucks turn better.

The trucks will be fitted for mesh shields and hood deflectors to hold off debris kicked up from the muck.

The drivers who know how to get dirty are the easy favorites.

Kyle Larson, pegged as NASCAR’s next big star, is one of the few drivers with experience on the dirt oval. Larson is one of only two drivers to sweep the USAC Four Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway. Larson also won in the USAC Midgets in 2012.

There’s a reason this track was selected for him to make his second Truck Series start of the season.

”I have been looking forward to this race for a really long time,” he said. ”I’ve had a lot of fun racing at Eldora and have had quite a bit of success, so I am excited to get back. I can’t wait to see how the trucks run there.”

Even with the lengthy gap between NASCAR dirt races, fans and drivers are buzzing over the race, a rarity in a series that often runs in front of mostly empty grandstands as a support race in a Sprint Cup weekend.

But a big crowd, big ratings and a great race could go far in making an Eldora a regular stop on the Truck Series circuit – and maybe make stock car racing there a reality.

”If it has incredible success, who knows how far this could go?” driver Kenny Wallace said. ”You could put the Nationwide Series there. One thing I always remind people of – and I race dirt all over the United States – this is where Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, Ryan Newman came from. Three quarters of the field in Sprint Cup came from dirt tracks just like Eldora. I think this is a really good deal.”

The race comes six weeks after the death of NASCAR driver Jason Leffler on a dirt track in New Jersey. State police say a mechanical problem was to blame for the spinout that ended with Leffler’s car slamming into a concrete wall.

The 37-year-old Long Beach, Calif., native was a two-time winner on the NASCAR Nationwide Series and a one-time winner in the Truck Series.

Though cleared, Redskins will go easy with RG3

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Robert Griffin III put on his knee brace and passed the perfunctory Washington Redskins conditioning test on the eve of training camp, then declared he has ”nothing left to prove” – at least physically – in his return from major knee surgery.

That’s doesn’t mean he’s all the way back.

Griffin said Wednesday he won’t participate in 11-on-11 drills in the early days of camp and likely won’t play in any preseason games. The quarterback who likes to keep the throttle wide open is going to have to exercise a bit more patience as he and coach Mike Shanahan – who have shared blame for how Griffin got hurt – try to work together to get him on the field for the regular season opener Sept. 9.

”They want to make sure we’re not doing anything too soon that we don’t have to do,” Griffin said. ”Let some of these other guys get ready for the preseason. If it comes around that I’m ready to go, then maybe in the third preseason game, but as far as my understanding goes, preseason’s really not even in the air. … I think Coach feels like I can play without any preseason, so there no need really for that. Patience is the key.”

Griffin had reconstructive surgery on two ligaments in January after injuring his right knee multiple times in a playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Team doctors and coaches cleared him for practice within the last week, setting a remarkable pace for a rehab that can typically take a year or more.

”In my mind there’s nothing left to prove,” Griffin said. ”And that’s the way you have to approach the game when you’re coming off of an injury. If you pass the test, then in your mind, you feel like you’re ready to go.”

But Shanahan is determined to play it safe with his franchise quarterback, having said he wants to make sure Griffin is 100 percent before playing in a game. Shanahan will meet with reporters Thursday, but Griffin appeared to lay out the key points in the latest important conversation between player and coach.

”I think we’re on the same page,” Griffin said. ”When we sat down and talked about what I was going to do in training camp and the weeks to follow, it was a good moment for me because of all the hard work had paid off. And they’re going to allow me to get back out there and do what I do, and that’s play football and just have fun with the guys.

”We all made mistakes last season. We all understand that. We all talked about it, and it’s time to move on. … Me and Mike Shanahan‘s relationship is paramount to this team being successful.”

Shanahan was not only criticized for leaving Griffin in the Seahawks game too long, but there was also scrutiny over whether the Redskins’ offense – along with Griffin’s aggressiveness – left him too vulnerable. He led the team to its first division title in 13 years, but he missed all or parts of four games with various injuries.

”The goal is longevity in the league. You also want to win,” Griffin said. ”And so, as a quarterback, I don’t like to conform and say you can’t win outside the pocket. I think you can win outside the pocket. You’ve just to be smart about it. And that’s what I’ve learned over the past six months about myself and what we need to do to win. Maybe that’s keeping me in the pocket a little bit more. Maybe that’s throwing the ball away a little bit more.”

Griffin said he’s been an ”overachiever” his whole life, so the thought of being eased back into the practice routine and skipping the preseason isn’t part of his nature.

”If they want to me to patient right now and ramp it up later, then I’m willing to do that,” he said. ”And they know that I’m going to be – I wouldn’t say compliant – but I’m going to follow those rules, follow those guidelines, do as much as I can within that, and when it’s time to go full-go, then I’ll be ready to go.”

”If you talk to a lot of the vets, they don’t like the preseason,” he added. ”That’s a well-known fact. Even I know that – and I’ve been the league only one year.”

Button Not plan vulturous Target at the Hungaroring

Budapest – McLaren racer Jenson Button calls Hungaroring circuit as a special place for him. But consider the situation now, he was reluctant to put the target is too high for the weekend.

Since career in F1 in 2000, Button could only win the first in 2006. He reached for the Hungarian Grand Prix when racing for Team Honda. Another victory in Hungary achieved Button in 2011, when he was driving for McLaren. Nicks it was no less special for the British driver.

“Circuits great, great place. I have many fond memories of the Hungaroring, of course, because here I won my first race in 2006, which is very full of emotion and seem far away now! I also posted victories in the 200 race there in 2011, “said Button in F1’s official website.

“It was a day in which all goes smoothly, the car drive like a dream, and I could win. Every F1 victory in the special, but that’s one of my favorite days,” he continued.

On weekends he would go back to driving at the Hungaroring race series 10th season in 2013. 10th in the standings this season, with the best performance one finish in the top five, Button seemed not expect much.

“Of course a win in 2013 will be difficult, but I really think the team is currently working hard. In Germany, the use of our tires, strategy, and management of the race running as it should.”

“It would be good if we can get a car with better rates to be more competitive with the leading rider, but at this time we can be satisfied with the best efforts in qualifying and the (race) on Sunday afternoon,” he said.

Austin Dillon wins at Eldora in first NASCAR dirt race in 43 years

The Camping World Truck Series’ debut on dirt went from novelty to mainstay in the span of three hours Wednesday night at Eldora Speedway, as Austin Dillon scored the first NASCAR national series win on a dirt track in 43 years.

If you watched and weren’t entertained, I don’t know what to tell you.

“This is real racing right here, this is all I’ve got to say,” Dillon said in victory lane after beating Kyle Larson to the finish line in a green-white-checker sprint.

The thing is, that wasn’t just the joy in Dillon coming out after he reached victory lane. The excitement of being at Tony Stewart’s track was palpable and authentic. Drivers and team members exclaimed throughout the evening about the race, and heck, not even a discouraging word was said by the NASCAR social media chamber, a notoriously finicky segment.

A big reason for that excitement? The racing.

Yes, it was different. But it wasn’t just the difference in styles in how a driver attacks a half-mile dirt track versus a 1.5 mile asphalt track that made Wednesday night mesmerizing. It was multiple grooves, the throttle management and a genuine sense that the race was ultimately going to be decided by the drivers and their trucks, not by clean air. (Which can be a bit of an oxymoron at a dirt track anyway.) Throw in a big helping of nostalgia — many NASCAR drivers grew up racing local dirt tracks — and it’s hard not to consider the night a rousing success.

Need proof of how that all came together? Look no further than the battle between Norm Benningand Clay Greenfield in the Last Chance Qualifier race to get into the 150 lap main event. Instead of relying only on single truck qualifying to set the field for the race, NASCAR used heat races and a subsequent last-chance race to whittle the 35 trucks attempting the race to the 30 trucks that would start the race.

With two laps left in the Last Chance race, Benning was holding onto the final transfer spot into the main race in fifth place. Greenfield was right behind him, both drivers in trucks they own and prepare themselves, a far cry from the multi-million dollar operations in the Sprint Cup Series.

Greenfield leaned on Benning’s bumper as the two approached the white flag. Benning got loose, but stayed in the throttle and held the position. As they came through turns three and four again,Greenfield got to the inside of Benning and slid up into him, forcing Benning’s truck into the wall. Sparks flew, but Benning stayed in the gas once again, nipping Greenfield at the line for that last place starting position.

And when Benning got back to the garage? Members from seemingly every team were waiting for him to get out of his truck to congratulate him.

Did NASCAR take a gamble by staging a type of race not run for nearly half a century at an 18,000 seat facility owned by a Sprint Cup Series champion? Probably. Did it pay off? Absolutely. Instead of the question being “Does the Truck Series return next year?” it’s now “When can the Nationwide and Cup Series do this?”

5 Great viewfinder, Rifat Sungkar Test Early

Bidik 5 Besar, Rifat Sungkar Tes Lebih Awal

Rifat Sungkar with Fastron World Rally Team, has been in the U.S. for 5 to follow the Rally America series, the New England Forest Rally (NEFR), which will be held on 26-27 July 2013.
With a target capable of reaching top 5, Rifat doing testing on Sunday morning local time yesterday, to get the car settings to suit the character trajectory to be traversed.
Rifat along with the mechanics of the Libra Racing team, conduct testing for approximately 4 hours in “Team O’Neil Rally School” in the city of Dolton, about 2 hours drive from home base while Fastron World Rally Team in Burlington, the state of Vermont.
This testing is necessary because of the character of the track in NEFR itself is very High Speed. In 2012 January, the average speed in NEFR is about 110 km / hour. At the time of testing, Rifat Sungkar doing two training sessions on the track along the 3 km.
In sessions conducted in the morning, felt that the engine has too much power in Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) under the 3000, which is actually very good for a meandering path, but less suitable for high speed track that character.
“But after doing the rounds as much as 15 laps, we found the ideal machine settings in the power band between 4500-5600 with a boost pressure of 1.7 bar” Rifat said through a press release received Tribunnews.com. “As for the tires, my mechanic and team agreed to choose the medium tires hard, considering the mileage of each special stage is quite far away and the weather forecast at the time of the match will be hot. This morning when we start practice, the air temperature was around 25 ° C, but around noon rose to 30 ° C “added Rifat.

While other leading racers like David Higgins and Ken Block, is also rumored to be practicing in the same place today. In this exercise, Rifat has not been accompanied by a navigator, Steve Lancaster, newly arrived in America last night.
“But this does not interfere with our preparation of Fastron World Rally Team, because me and Steve have been playing together on a WRC event in Greece last year” said Rifat.
New England Forest Rally or NEFR own, known as one of the best rally in the U.S.. In the beginning, the owner of Libra Racing, John Buffumlah who organized this rally for more than 16 years. For 2 days, 57 racers will be faced with a fairly wide track, because the track is actually the track used logging trucks.
In fact, because the average speed is too high, the organizing committee will make some chichane, ie deliberately dibelok street-corner to reduce speed.
“I was with Fastron World Rally Team will make every effort to achieve the best results. Our target is the top 5 positions, as well as proving that “Indonesia Cool” could achieve, especially in the arena of rallying. We ask his blessing prayer, so that things run smoothly “said Rifat Sungkar.
